Headwaters Production Journal
Saturday, May 10th, 2008
With a company orientation on Wednesday, May 7, and a rehearsal today (May 10) with Movement Designer Celeste Miller, Headwaters 2008 is under way.
We created a new opening sequence today, with gestures and movements that are different than last year, but no less beautiful. People worked well and quickly with one another, and even [...]

Headwaters is a hit – in so many ways.
The final dress rehearsal on Thursday 7/5 had about 30 good friends who responded wonderfully, and then the Friends and Family Preview on 7/6 went off without a hitch, with about 110 people watching. Opening night was truly terrific – the cast kicked it up a [...]

As we near the final stages of rehearsal and production, I’ve been bad about blogging to update what’s happening. I’m pleased to report that we’re having very successful full run-throughs of the show with both of our sets of leads (the show is somewhat double cast, just to confuse everyone).
On Tuesday night, 6/26, we [...]

We had a terrific "public rehearsal" on Friday night 6/15, at the Lawn Party that opened SNCA’s SummerFest. We performed the opening song, the first Rivers scene, the song "Come and Sit by the River", the Foot monologue, and then sang "Hold Fast to the Laughter."
We got a lot of positive feedback from the performance, [...]

I’ve done little blogging this week, because it’s been a week of visiting artists and public performances. Nick Slie of Mondo Bizarro was in Sautee Nacoochee on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, taping interviews, rehearsals, and taking a trip up the Tallulah River to shoot "b-roll." On Thursday, Jo Carson, our primary playwright, arrived to watch [...]

It’s gotten hot, and that makes the gymnasium a sweaty place. But, as with everything else, the Headwaters company is dealing with it – almost always with good grace. We’re all losing a little weight during this process, and we’re sweating out lots of toxins, I feel certain.
This week we "stumbled through" Acts 1 and [...]

A late night of video editing revealed a wonderful clip of Celeste Miller creating the opening movement phrase with the company on May 18. She watched us tell our stories, and captured the gestures we used to illustrate them, then turned it into an 11 part phrase.

I’ve been a little under the weather, so the blogging has been slow of late. Tonight, I endeavor to catch back up.
Thursday night, May 24, we worked on monologues – the Woods Colt set of three, about Zebbie, a woman who made her own way in this world because she had to; the Cat, a [...]

Wednesday night’s rehearsal added the illustrious Barbara Luhn and her amazing musical direction talents to the mix of movement and gesture, as we continued to refine the opening moments of the show. On Tuesday, I threw the company a loop, by changing the final verse of our opening song ("Turn the World Around" by Harry [...]

Saturday afternoon was platform building time, as Alan Hall brought power tools and saw horses to tame the lumber Tommy had delivered. in 3 hours, Alan, Roger Williams (who’s considering membership in Volunteers Anonymous, ’cause he can’t see anyone working but what he has to join in), MK Wegmann and I whipped out three platforms [...]
